Once you have worked out how to hold your hook and yarn, and you know how to make a slip knot, you are ready to learn how to chain stitch
With the loop of your slip knot on the hook, hold the slip knot with your thumb and finger of your non dominant hand, and your hook with your dominant hand;

Push the hook under and around the working end of the yarn (called a yarn over)

with the hook pointing down

pull it backwards catching the yarn with the hook

pulling it through the loop – don’t pull too tight!

And there you have your first chain!

Repeat steps 1-5 to make more chains. Move your thumb and finger further up the chain as you make more stitches
Counting chains

Each chain stitch looks like a ‘v’, the one on hook doesn’t count
