Melu Crochet Guide: how to make a slip knot

Once you have worked out how to hold your hook and yarn, you are ready to start to crochet! A slip knot is the starting point for most crochet projects, there are many ways to create a slip knot, here is an easy method:


1 Hold the working end

2 Wrap tail end of yarn over

3 Grab tail end with hook

4 Pull through onto hook

The loop on your hook should be secure but not tight, adjust this by pulling the working end to loosen and the tail end to tighten.

Practice making a slip knot and adjusting it whilst it’s on your hook.
