Crazy Hexi Cool Top Pattern by Melu Crochet

I’ve always loved the clever construction of crochet hexagon garments. There’s something so satisfying about starting with a simple shape and watching it transform into a wearable garment as you crochet.

For the Crazy Hexi Cool Top, I’ve taken that familiar construction and given it a fresh twist. The result is a stylish, modern crochet top that looks much more complicated than it really is!

The Crazy Hexi Cool Top is made using elongated hexagons, with the shaping created as you crochet. This makes the construction intuitive and enjoyable, with the length of the top built into the design as you work.

If you’ve made a crochet hexagon cardigan before, you’ll probably recognise the basic idea, but the elongated shape creates a completely different finished garment.

And there’s another big bonus…

It’s a NO SEW crochet pattern!

Once you’ve crocheted the pieces, there’s very little finishing required, making this a satisfying garment to construct.

Inspired by my Crazy Hexi Cool Cardi

The Crazy Hexi Cool Top was inspired by my Crazy Hexi Cool Cardi, where I first combined sections of solid stitches with classic granny stitch.

I loved the way the two stitch patterns worked together. The solid sections give the fabric structure, while the granny stitch creates movement, texture and plenty of drape.

I knew I wanted to explore this combination further, and a crochet top felt like the perfect project.

For the Crazy Hexi Cool Top, the granny stitch creates lovely vertical lines through the body of the garment. I really love the way these uninterrupted lines give the top a flattering, elongating look while still keeping that relaxed, timeless feel of granny stitch.

And, of course, granny stitch has that wonderfully rhythmic quality that makes it such a relaxing stitch to crochet.

A customisable crochet top

One of the things I really wanted to include in this crochet top pattern was flexibility.

The Crazy Hexi Cool Top includes 5 inclusive sizes and 11 different length options, so you can create a top that suits you rather than having to fit yourself around a fixed pattern.

The sizes are:

XS/S, M/L, XL/2X, 3X/4X and 5X

There are also 11 length options, A–K, ranging from a shorter top through to a longer tunic-style length.

The neckline is customisable too, giving you even more flexibility when creating your finished garment.

Your chosen size is colour-coded throughout the pattern, and clear sizing information is included to help you choose the best option for you.
